Who wouldn't have fun in a class called Candy-ology? The summer camp made rock candy to take home, experimented with pop rocks, Jolly ranchers and skittles, made edible slime, and created ice cream in a bag. #yummy #summercamp #mykindofclass
Meet the Bighorns - Amanda Yanger has been teaching for nine years. She graduated from Mississippi State University with a degree in education and is ESL Certified. Her nine years of experience has included a variety of grades. She loves teaching because no two days are ever the same in the classroom. Mrs. Yanger began teaching at Oasis during the 2020-2021 school year as a long-term substitute for a teacher on maternity leave. In 2021, she stepped into her current position as the Life Skills Program Coordinator and Special Education Teacher. She serves 5th, 6th, 8th, 10th, and 12th grade students. Her favorite thing about teaching at Oasis is the sense of community. She says, “I love that the middle school students interact and feel comfortable with associating with our High School students in the Life Skills Program. The staff at Oasis have created such a welcoming environment for all and it's evident that it resonates with the students.” Mrs. Yanger is so amazed by the Oasis Academy College Prep students and their growth socially and academically. In the Life Skills Program, Oasis students are attending grade level courses and holding conversations with peers. They are learning about current events and using their keyboarding skills to type reports. They are also learning financial literacy skills and applying things learned to real world situations. She knows the Oasis Academy College Prep students are being set up to succeed in whatever path they should choose to take in life and she feels very fortunate to have been welcomed into the Bighorn family. In her free time, her husband, son, and she love taking their kayak and paddleboard to Lake Tahoe. They are beach people through and through so it's nice to get away for the weekends. They also enjoy exploring the west coast and traveling as much as they can.
7-7 is a lucky kind of day, but it's super lucky if it's your birthday! Wishing Ms. Tara Azevedo a birthday as wonderful as she is, full of fun, laughter, and kindness.
